Set money aside in a jar

Give it a name

A jar tracks money you choose to set aside for a trip, a bike or an emergency fund. Jars are included in the free plan. Papirer does not move money between bank accounts.

Open Menu → Goals, create a Jar, and add its name, target and an optional date. You can also say “Create a Japan jar for €1200”. With a date, Papirer can show a suggested weekly contribution.

Add or take out money

Open the jar and tap Add money, or say “Put €50 in Japan”. Use Take out or ask “Take €20 out of Japan” to withdraw part of it. Check the amount and confirm when asked.

Adding money is not an expense. Taking money out is not income. Both are movements of money set aside, visible in the jar's history.

Pay from a jar

Record a purchase and link it to the jar from the entry or through the assistant. This assigns money already set aside to that purchase; it does not make a bank payment.

If you set aside €600 and pay €100 from Japan, progress still reflects the €600 set aside and €500 remains available. If a purchase exceeds the available balance, the remainder counts as ordinary spending.

Correct a movement

You can edit the jar and review its movements. Reducing a contribution that already funded a purchase may require correcting dependent movements first. Check the available balance as well as progress.

A savings goal measures income minus spending. A jar tracks specific contributions. Choose the one that matches what you want to follow.
